This is an initiative which had been launched in 2021 to support hip surgeons at any stage of their career. The value of mentorship in a surgical career is widely recognised. It has benefits for both the mentor and the mentee in relation to job satisfaction and career success. Through the mentor scheme we hope to encourage and support everyone with an interest in hip surgery, regardless of their background, race, gender, sexuality or self-definition of belonging.

We welcome anyone who has an interest in Orthopaedic Hip surgery, from medical student through to senior consultant, into the scheme. We ask that prospective mentees complete a profile to help us to match you with a potential mentor. This is to provide details of who you are in terms of your geographical location, the stage you are at in your career as well as some basic demographics. Importantly, we ask you to give reasons of what you would seek to gain from a mentorship relationship. For example, this might be returning to work after a period of absence, difficulties with work-life balance, consideration of where to train or practice, dealing with discrimination or prejudice at work, or planning for retirement. The list could be endless.

Over 50 surgeons and trainees from around the country have so far offered to be mentors within the scheme. Their profiles can be viewed here. If you believe that you would benefit from being put into contact with a mentor through this scheme then please apply by completing your profile (below).

Any questions please feel free to email mentorship@britishhipsociety.com.

We look forward to hearing from you,
