President’s Monthly Update – March 2022

Dear Members,

Welcome to our March newsletter and my first as President of the British Hip Society. It’s been a busy four weeks since our very successful annual scientific meeting in Bournemouth which had a record attendance of over 550 delegates. The portfolio of activities of the society has expanded significantly and so has the membership. We are certainly evolving to be a diverse, inclusive, and stronger society.

The mantra for this year is to maintain and strengthen all the activities on our portfolio which the relevant members of the Executive Committee will present below and continued responsible fiscal management.  In addition, we would like to focus on curating and storing our rich history, harnessing the power of technology to support our trainees via virtual and augmented reality training, supporting our patients on the waiting list through scientifically robust prioritisation and helping BOA and RCS in their strategy for addressing the ever-growing waiting lists, broadening our membership to include scientists and medical students and finally endeavour to develop our international reputation and collaborate with other hip societies globally.

I would like to congratulate the following BHS members who were elected to the Executive Committee: Chair of the Education Committee: Mr Satish Kutty, Chair of the Culture and Diversity Committee: Miss Joanna Maggs, Honorary Treasurer: Mr Matt Wilson, Honorary Secretary: Miss Kate Gill & Vice President: Mr Anil Gambhir.

Finally, a note of appreciation and thanks to my predecessors Andy Hamer, Jonathan Howell and Steve Jones who have been inspirational leaders and whose tireless energy and vision have seen the society blossom over the last few years. It is certainly an honour, pleasure, and a privilege to be serving as President of the BHS in such an exciting phase.

Best Wishes,
Vikas Khanduja
President, British Hip Society
