President’s Monthly Update – June 2022

Dear Members,

Greetings & hope you are coping with the heatwave! Highlights from the last month.

First of all, we are pleased to announce that Mr. Justin Green was successful at the BHS-ORUK Fellowship interview. Justin is an early year’s orthopaedic registrar who has been involved in clinical informatics and AI innovation within healthcare.

Second, we also interviewed for the popular BHS-AHS Travelling Fellowship due to commence in September this year.  James Sheldon and  Sunil Kumar were successful at the interview and will be joining Anna Cohen-Rosenblum and Cody C. Wyles from USA as they travel together to centres of excellence in the UK over a three week period, culminating at the annual BOA Congress in Birmingham.

Many congratulations to Justin, James and Sunil on well-deserved success at these competitive interviews.

Third, the 2023 BOA Future Leaders Programme (FLP) has been launched, and applications are now open. BHS will be sponsoring one fellow on the 2023 FLP. This place is only open to members of BHS. Applications will close on 5th September 2022.

To be eligible to take part in the programme when it runs, you must be either:

• A senior trainee (ST8 or above)

• A newly appointed consultant (less than 3 years)

• An SAS Surgeon (FRCS Tr & Orth)

• A post-CCT Surgeon

The successful candidate must be a BOA member when the programme runs to be eligible to take part. BHS will select the successful candidate by panel assessment and a short virtual interview. All applications will be anonymised to reduce the potential for unconscious bias. Please download the Main BOA Future Leaders Programme application form, provide your CV and complete the Equality and Diversity Monitoring form. Send your completed application to policy@boa.ac.uk  More information on the FLP and how to apply is on the BOA website HERE

Finally, featuring in ‘Meet the Executive’ this month is our NAHR Registry Chair, Mr. Ajay Malviya.

Hope you enjoy the summer and if you are on leave, then do get some well-deserved rest.

Very Best Wishes,
