Welcome to our June News Update. I hope you all are enjoying a bit of warmer summer weather and some easing of our restrictions!
British Hip Society Annual Scientific Meeting June 9-11
Our Annual Scientific Meeting was held for the first time as a fully virtual meeting, with the Second Instructional Course running in parallel on Friday. Comments after the event were very complimentary, particularly with the professional production of the event courtesy of Jai Mistry and his team. Jai has been involved in running BHS meetings for ten years and should be congratulated and thanked for his outstanding efforts during this time.
We were lucky to welcome Dr. Cecilia Rogmark as the Presidential Guest Lecturer and Prof. Peter Kay as the Charnley Lecturer. The virtual platform allowed us to be joined by a number of overseas speakers and we hope to continue this aspect of the meeting in the future. Very constructive feedback has been received which will guide the format of future meetings and I will keep you updated as the planning for the March 2022 meeting progresses.
BHS @ BOA Aberdeen September 21-24
The BHS is hosting two revalidation sessions at the BOA meeting in September on Thursday 23rd. At present the intention is for the BOA to go ahead as a face-to-face meeting, but it is with regret that our Charnley Lecturer, Prof Thorsten Gherke won’t be able to attend in person due to Covid restrictions. His lecture has been deferred until the next Annual Scientific Meeting in March 2022.
The BHS programme will offer sessions on Infection in Hip Surgery, launching the new BHS Periprosthetic Joint Infection BOAST and a session on Hip Surgery in Endemic Covid-19.
