Trauma commitments:

Fracture clinic, Weekday trauma lists, no out of hours trauma commitment (”on call”) is a part of the post

Further details:

Located in the Northeast of England (UK), the post is primarily based at Wansbeck General Hospital with further sessions at Hexham General Hospital, North Tyneside General Hospital and Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.

The centres see over 300-400 new referrals per year and over 250 hip preservation procedures are performed most years, including:

  • 75-80 Periacetabular Osteotomies (PAO)
  • 150 Hip Arthroscopies
  • 150 Hip Arthroplasties

Duties of the job

1:1 supervision by Mr Ajay Malviya during most Hip Preservation surgery and trauma clinical sessions. Commitments vary each week but normally include:

  • 4-6 weekday elective theatre sessions
  • 2-3 weekday elective clinic sessions
  • 1 weekday fracture clinic session
  • Approximately 1:6 week of weekday trauma sessions (theatre and clinic)

Fellows will be required to contribute to ongoing research projects within the Trust and NAHR,  publish research and present on a regional or national basis.

Personal specification

  • GMC registration for clinical work
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Higher Degree
  • FRCS (Tr&Ortho) or equivalent
