The British Hip Society and Italian Hip Society (Società Italiana dell’Anca) held a very successful meeting in Milan on 26 November 2015 and 27 November 2015. This is the first such meeting to our knowledge where two distinguished international societies brought together their members in a combined scientific and social programme. The meeting was attended by over 100 British surgeons, and by over 600 participants in total. Indeed, 49 different countries were represented.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Luigi Zagra from Italy, and Professor Fares Haddad from the UK. The British Hip Society contributed greatly to the scientific committee and to the faculty, and made notable contributions throughout an excellent two-day programme.
The meeting was very ably supported by the OIC organising group who put on an outstanding programme across four rooms. There were 460 abstracts submitted with over 260 oral communications, 170 e-posters and a separate educational corner. The meeting also has a website that can be used for European and Italian continuing education credits.
The feedback from the meeting has been very positive. We are grateful for the support of all the British Hip Society members and their registrars who contributed. It was an outstanding experience and one that will hopefully lead to other collaborations with both European and non-European societies in future.
