BHS Mentorship Scheme & Mentor-Matching Evenings

Would you like use your experience as a surgeon to help colleagues develop their careers? Or are you trying to accomplish new goals in your own career, or navigate hurdles, and could do with some support? In either case, the BHS Mentorship Scheme is for you!

Launched by the BHS Culture and Diversity Committee this year, the Mentorship Scheme already has over 30 trained mentors (from orthopaedic trainees through to experienced consultants). Our mentors come from all over the UK and have a broad range of experiences, including following non-traditional training routes, returning to work after illness, working less than full time, balancing academic and clinical work and dealing with workplace discrimination. You can view our mentor profiles on the mentorship page of the BHS website  HERE.

To aid with the introduction of the scheme and to allow mentoring relationships to form, we are running two virtual mentor matching evenings in September. These will be held on zoom, and will allow mentees to meet mentors for short one-to-one conversations to determine whether a mentoring relationship could be of benefit.

Anyone is welcome to join the scheme as a mentor, a mentee or both. You do not need to be a member of BHS to benefit from this scheme, we welcome anyone with an interest in Orthopaedics and Hip Surgery. We would very much appreciate you advertising this scheme amongst your colleagues, junior doctors and interested medical students. If you are keen to be involved please look at the website or contact us by email HERE for more information.

Many thanks,

Joanna Maggs, Sarah Eastwood, Samantha Tross and Dominic Meek
