Profile statement
I am Amr Hussein, currently fellow at St George’s Hospital in London. I graduated from medical school in Alexandria, Egypt then worked in KSA before landing in the UK. I have to admit, it wasn’t an easy journey, getting used to how NHS works and in a different working culture. It took me some time to settle, at the beginning I felt in a way lost, didn’t know what to do and how to achieve my goals. It wasn’t until I started to have advice and guidance from my seniors, that I felt more on track and this helped me plan and finish my self-directed training and go through my exams.
I was lucky to have great mentors, till now, who give continuous advice and support. In my day to day practice I try as possible to advise and support my colleagues and I did participate in few FRCS preparatory courses. I can personally relate to the importance and effect of having caring mentors and I would love to be part of the BHS mentoring scheme.
